Input of anywhere. What is Entering Text Microsoft Word 2010? I'm absolutely going to follow your advice Cindy, and take your macros and virus suggestions to the end user forums, but I do hope this thread stays open - I have only respect for all the knowledge on these forums, and you've all had by far the most helpful I'm fairly certain Cindy has it right - my Enter key isn't functioning - it's not creating the pilcrows, and therefore not creating new paragraphs instead it's creating the bent arrow or line breaks, making it impossible to align only selected text.

Into Word on numerous occasions and when Stefan noted the paragraphs possibility I made a beeline to check them for pilcrows. The problem isn't present on job sites, or within Outlook email - I've copy & pasted these My laptop is about three/four years old and has other faults, but I'm fairly certain this problem has been present the longest. I use the 2007 edition of Task LauncherĪnd the 2007 edition of PowerPoint. I have yet to try OneNote, Excel, Works Spreadsheet and Works Database. Thank-you Stefan - I'm certain I followed those instructions to the letter - I think you and Cindy may well be spot on with the problem lying elsewhere.įor anyone within this forum interested, collecting cases, or trying to help, in my case the problem arises in Word, Works Processor and PowerPoint. I'm working toward being a writer so I understand theįrustration. Thanks to BigRedd for the original post - this has been by far the most informative thread I've found (kudos to you for taking it to the programmers). Thanks to all the fast replies, especially Cindy. At the very least, they should be able to help Possibly, the people who deal with Word as end users, in that other forum, have heard of the problem and know what it is. I've never heard of this happening before, although from the discussion this thread, going backĪ couple of years, there is apparently something out there causing the problem.

This could be a macro you've installed in Word, some software under Windows or perhaps a virus. If you're seeing somethingĭifferent, then some third-party software has reassigned the key. Pressing the ENTER key should never insert the arrows, it should only insert a pilcrow ("backwards P"). You'll find a lot more people there, with all kinds of experience working with Word.įWIW, though, it sounds to me as if something (not Word or Microsoft!) has changed how your ENTER key is working. Unfortunately, we're not able to move discussions from here to that set of forums so you'll need to ask your question there, again. For that kind of thing, you're better off in a forum that targets end-users:

Any ideas how to fix this?Īs has been mentioned before in this discussion, this forum really targets programming questions, not problems connected with how to actually use Word. write more/ press the enter for a new para. Is possible to align those paragraphs separated with that symbol wherever, but in new documents I have only got these arrows which point down and to the left, but where I've actually intended a new paragraph. I think there might be something to the paragraphs - when I open up past Word documents the pages are littered with those symbols - and it seems it I tried leaving the paragraph out of the mix, leaving the command without an insertion point which didn't help either. I was really excited about the suggestion above, but wasn't sure what the insertion point I was supposed to insert into the command actually was my only guess was to copy & paste a paragraph from the document into thatĬommand, which I'm sure is incorrect because I pressed enter and an 'error' window popped up (I'm desperate).

I'm also having the same problem as the contributers above, and I'm also unexperienced in commands, programming, everything these forums are about.
